THE DETOX

The digestive system is a group of organs working together to convert food into energy and basic nutrients to feed the entire body. Food passes through a long tube inside the body known as the alimentary canal or the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system and a vital part of the immune system, comprising a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a clear fluid called lymph (from Latin, lympha meaning water) directionally towards the heart. The human body is made up of 75 - 100 trillion cells, each of which is constantly absorbing nutrition, oxygen and water (the basic buiding blocks of cells) and also excreting waste products.

Modern lifestyles result in build up of toxins through what we eat, breathe and put on our skins. Detoxification is the physiological or medicinal removal of toxic substances from a living organism, including the human body, mainly carried out by the liver.

THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

The digestive system is a group of organs working together to convert food into energy and basic nutrients to feed the entire body. Food passes through a long tube inside the body known as the alimentary canal or the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract). The alimentary canal is made up of the oral cavity, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, and large intestines. In addition to the alimentary canal, there are several important accessory organs that help your body to digest food.

Accessory organs of the digestive system include the teeth, tongue, salivary glands, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. To achieve the goal of providing energy and nutrients to the body, six major functions take place in the digestive system: Ingestion, Secretion, Mixing and movement, Digestion, Absorption, Excretion.  All of these functions working optimally means vibrant "gut" health which means the body is receiving sufficient nutrients (building blocks) and water, and removing sufficient waste products so that no strain is put on the system causing it to fail to some extent or other.  Failure to function properly leads to disease.  It can easily be said that health begins in the digestive system, and that the very first step to good health is cleaning out the system.

THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

The lymphatic system is part of the circulatory system and a vital part of the immune system, comprising a network of lymphatic vessels that carry a clear fluid called lymph (from Latin, lympha meaning water) directionally towards the heart.

The other main function of the lymphatic system is that of defense in the immune system. Lymph is very similar to blood plasma: it contains lymphocytes and other white blood cells. It also contains waste products and cellular debris together with bacteria and proteins. Associated organs composed of lymphoid tissue are the sites of lymphocyte production. Lymphocytes are concentrated in the lymph nodes. The spleen and the thymus are also lymphoid organs of the immune system. The tonsils are lymphoid organs that are also associated with the digestive system. Lymphoid tissues contain lymphocytes, and also contain other types of cells for support. The system also includes all the structures dedicated to the circulation and production of lymphocytes (the primary cellular component of lymph), which also includes the bone marrow, and the lymphoid tissue associated with the digestive system.

DETOXING

The detox is fundamental to the healing process.  If the digestive system is not functioning properly the body cannot absorb nutrients and excrete waste products properly.  The digestive system functions according to a specific cycle which consists of three phases: the active digestive phase, the rest phase and the elimination phase. Modern dietary habits are mostly out of sync with this cycle which stresses the system so that it is not operating optimally.  This means that most of us have years of waste in our gut and toxins built up in our bodies which cause ill-health and hinder healing.  These toxins come from poisons sprayed on and absorbed by our food as it grows, unhealthy processed food and carbonated and caffeinated drinks, heavy metals in tap water, pollution in the air, overuse of pharmaceutical medications like anti-biotics, stress, lack of exercise, shallow breathing  and inadequate elimination.

A good live probiotic, natural diet and pure water routine combined with sufficient exercise is the first step to detoxing the body and restoring vibrant health.
